Lying, cheating, hurting and cruel
Never calming and overrun with fear
No courage, no safety for those we claim dear
Just another day of chaos and death
One day like another always without rest
This is the world at its best

I choose what I believe
My beliefs determine my behavior
Be careful how you think
Your life is shaped by your thoughts
Our thoughts can destroy us
It’s important that we know the truth

The world doesn’t have the truth
It has many ideas and beliefs
Formed by those who didn’t know the truth
Often saying they were simply trying to get by
This seemed like a good idea so they believed it
This is the world at its best

God is the only source of truth
He will be true even when the world is false
Our world is passing away
God is here to stay
Day by day we move closer to Him
Are we getting to know the One who is truth?

Mankind makes bad choices
When we come to Jesus we have made a good choice
He is truth and He will give us the truth
In Jesus we have eternal life and in Him we serve
Coming to Christ gives us peace with God
We are His children and He is our Father

Choose carefully what you believe
Read the Word and ask the Lord for wisdom
Day by day you will grow in knowledge
His Word will strengthen your soul and your life
A relationship with Jesus will transform you
Into the person you knew in your heart you could be

Giants seek to rob us
Abuse us
Misuse us
Pushing us off the path of life
All of us face giants
Those things we fail on every day

Giants want to intimidate us
God says they can help us grow
They let us see Christ at work
They stretch our faith
Will we stand or run away?
Jesus will save us this day

Our battle belongs to the Lord
He will face our giants
They will run away
We can live this day
Knowing Christ is here
He will not desert us

Slaying giants is normal
It is part of our Christ–like walk
Jesus equips us to live life one day at a time
He heals our hearts
He steels our soul
The victory belongs to the Lord

Praise the Lord
He made us and gave us His strength
Peace and grace fill us
Our role is to trust and obey
His role is to deal with the giants coming our way
Joy in the Lord for He continually makes us whole

Keep your eyes on Jesus
He is the only way to the Father
By faith in Christ by His grace
His blood shed on Calvary
He paid the price we could not pay

His death on the cross
A voluntary sacrifice-the life is in the blood
Only way to save our soul
A substitute for each of us
His death a victory-evil lost

He delivered us from this present evil world
No pie in the sky bye and bye
A real release from slavery to sin
No longer condemned
We belong to HIM

The cross is not loss
It is gain
Originating by the will of God
He chose to come and save us
Obedience was the key-Jesus died for you and me

Saved solely by grace a gift from God
We resoundingly shout
Worthy is the Lamb who shed His blood-a sacrifice
Amazing love that God would die for me
Keep your eyes on Jesus

Power to live a daily life
To know to be to offer advice
Filled with Jesus the power of life
He guides each step I take

Power to live a daily life
His strength enough for me
To make decisions and find my way
His life is sufficient for me

Power that conquers
Each failure in me
I am not at the mercy of the enemy
I can do all things through Christ

Unfazed by circumstance
His power enables that which is in me
To change to grow to know Jesus
I am content within whatever my conditions may be

Power that is strong today
As strong as it was 2,000 years ago
When Jesus died on the cross for me
The Father by His might raised Christ from the grave

Power to live a daily life
Knowing Jesus fills and fills my soul
I am His and Jesus belongs to me
I am free in Christ nothing can destroy me-Jesus is Lord of me

YOU ARE A MISSION FIELD

You are a mission field
Courted and maintained by God
He is your father, brother, leader, guide
His love poured out for you, You belong to Him

Our glory is in our service
Serving others He has called
As though our life depended on it
Without each other we will fall

Jesus is our Savior
Faith in Him is better than gold
It’s a real position of confidence
We are His to have and to hold

All of our service is an activity of love
The need of a world gone mad with sin
It is in dire need of our love
We are coworkers with God

Live with those around you
With an awareness of your Call
Christ in you your hope of glory
Is that power that will enable you to fulfill your call

Jesus is our best friend
He never sets us aside
Always willing to listen
Calling us to sit by His side

Our growth in Christ
Comes with sacrifice
Setting aside the world
And its selfish advice

Pray for me and I’ll pray for you
Jesus will see us through
His wisdom will carry us in times of pain
You are a mission field in Jesus name

I was caught by her warmth and kindness
She was a person of hospitality
Filled with a grace that always blessed
When you were in her presence you felt important

A strong character that refused to quit
Failure was not acceptable to her
Active, generous, loyal, and faithful
Every challenge she faced was defeated

She possessed a deep faith
Her joy was infectious
She was wise, patient, understanding and generous
In her presence you were encouraged

She was a matriarch
A family and church leader
Her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and others were loved
They counted on her and she taught them to be people of value

The Seminary was especially blessed to have her
She was our blessing
We always counted on her for forty-six years
She always met the mark and then some

Our students were blessed by her
She helped them with their troubles
A listening ear, a kind word and financial help
They believed in her and she was trustworthy

All of us will miss her
We will miss her in ways that are not definable
She was part of our sunshine
Our joy is full knowing she is with Jesus

Almetta thank you for being our friend
Thank you for being a family leader
We miss you, life goes on but we miss you
Thank you for your life invested here in New Orleans

I was thinking about you
How much I loved you
I’m here for you every time you need me

I know you need me
Much more than you realize
Chaos and trouble will follow you
Things your brain cannot synthesize

Call me when you need me
Yell as loud as you want
I will respond instantaneously
You never have to fear I won’t

When you cry out
I will touch your heart with knowledge
You will know I am there with you
You will experience a knowing you cannot explain

It seems like a miracle to you
Sometimes you may doubt that I will come through
I will I promise you that I will answer
Pray to me now and later and tomorrow and all the time

I will tell you what you need to know
You will have a deep understanding of life
Here it is: I am in Control and you belong to me
Real confidence, nothing can take you away from me

One more word to you
I will never turn my back on you
Take the uncertainty of life with all of its chaos and set it down
Spend time with me so that you will know what to do

Every day with Jesus
Is sweeter than the day before
Every day you are stronger
To face your life where you are in Jesus way

Erudite men of wisdom
Creating gods they can control
Fashioning them in boldness
Telling stories about their strongholds

I would laugh if it weren’t so sad
Look around at the gods hand made
Alcohol, drugs, abortion, pride
Worshipped by a world that has died

Man has dishonored God
The One true God who revealed Himself
He spoke His truth
Man chose to do his own thing

Heaven was shaken
Heartache and emptiness ruled the world
No one believed in God
Only in the gods they made

Into this place of sin and disgrace
God came and took our place
Dying for the sin that was ours
He gave His life for us

One God, One Son, One Holy Spirit
Three in ONE and harmony
God spoke and our salvation was done
Follow the Son, He is life and light for anyone

One day soon He will return
On that day worldliness will be gone
The battle won evil done
All in Christ will come and worship at His feet

Let’s talk about eternity
Before you were born
In that vast place of the Godhead
Three in one where all was done

Before you were born
Action was begun
Completed with full knowledge
God knew what He had done

Heavy thoughts to think of God
We can because He told Jeremiah
The way He did and what He did
Before our life was begun

God knew you before you were formed
He clearly states this action
He knew you intimately and completely
Before your life was begun

His state of knowing was more fully than we know
He knew more than we know when we are grown
From before and into eternity God created us
Before your life was begun

God set us apart
We were Holy and committed to Him
He chose us – But lets us choose Him
It is His way or no way – Before your life was begun

God gave us a job
A perfect job that just fits us
No one else can do our job-it is for ONE
Before your life was begun

God formed us-after He knew us, set us apart as Holy and gave us a job
He fashioned us
Then squeezed us into His shape for us
We fit perfectly into what God called us to do-When our life was begun

She filled a room with her sunshine, mirroring Christ
I always felt like I was important
Her prayers, her interest
Made me feel special, a player

She always asked how you were
She meant her question
If you answered flippantly
She accepted that and accorded you respect

She was inquisitive about life
People genuinely interested her
She didn’t hide her feelings
Her thoughts about you were always for good

I miss her today
As I honor her passing
A Saint if there every was one
She truly inspired thoughts about Jesus

Her husband is my best friend
He still feels the pain of her untimely death
Each day without her sunshine
His ache increases and shows in his face

Her children are honorable, Godly men
Both raising children to be followers of Christ
They married wives like their mother
Beautiful, filled with the sunshine of Jesus

A wonderful family that misses their matriarch
She is celebrated today
Her life inspires me, it calls me to the best in me
Retia Dukes was an original now home with Christ
